Description

Many of today's business monitors come with nifty features such as a high native resolution and precise color-calibration settings. For certain kinds of work, extras like these are desirable, but they boost a monitor's price, sometimes by a bunch. The Dell 27 Monitor (P2719H) has a more modest feature set, with a price to match. It still provides a highly adjustable stand (tweakable in four dimensions), as well as a good selection of ports. Like its smaller sibling, the Dell P2419H, the P2719H has a 1080p (1,920-by-1,080-pixel) native resolution. However, while 1080p is still a typical resolution for 24-inch business monitors, most 27-inch panels—including the Editors' Choice ViewSonic VP2768—have graduated to a native resolution of WQHD (2,560 by 1,440 pixels). That said, 1080p should be more than adequate for business use with a 27-inch monitor, unless your job entails photo editing, working with intricate graphics or video, or dealing with genuinely gigantic spreadsheets. If you don't need the higher resolution, there's no sense in paying extra for it. The standard monitor stand is detached when the monitor is shipped from the factory. To learn more about attaching the standard monitor stand, refer to the Setting Up the Monitor section in the User's Guide of your Dell P2719H monitor. Its display covers 95% of the sRGB/ITU-R BT.709 (web/HDTV standard) in CIE1976 (it is able to represent almost all of the colors found on the Web). Your Dell P2719H monitor has a built-in diagnostic tool that helps to determine if the screen abnormality you are experiencing is a problem with the monitor or with the video card on your computer.

Then, there is the tilting feature, which has a range of -5 to +21 (compared to flat 90-degrees). Quite frankly this is not a big amount of movement it offers, but the swivel joint can throw some dust in your eyes. It allows for 45-degrees of rotation to both left and right. This is extremely useful when you want to connect a second monitor or you need to show a cute cat video to your colleague.

We measured a maximum brightness for the “Standard” mode of 293 nits in the middle of the screen and 277 nits as an average for the whole area, with a maximum deviation of 11%. This section provides information on troubleshooting steps that can help resolve the most common issues with the Dell P2719H monitor. Alternatively, to learn more about troubleshooting common issues on Dell monitors, refer to the Dell knowledge-base article Troubleshooting Display or Video Issues on a Dell Monitor. Common Problem The monitor's viewing angles, both from the side and above, were wide, typical of an IPS panel, with no discernible dimming or color shift, even at extreme off-center angles.

Still, we’ve included other color spaces like the famous DCI-P3 standard used by movie studios, as well as the digital UHD Rec.2020 standard. Rec.2020, however, is still a thing of the future and it’s difficult for today’s displays to cover that well. We’ve also included the so-called Michael Pointer gamut, or Pointer’s gamut, which represents the colors that naturally occur around us every day. In addition to the aforementioned analysis of the image qualities of this panel, we want to add a couple of stuff. First, a 27-inch monitor is probably the perfect size for a regular desktop. It is neither too big nor too small. Indeed, the Full HD resolution has quite a few disadvantages to the Quad HD one, which ultimately leads to less sharpness and easily distinguishable pixels, but on the bright side, it can help you maintain a more comfortable and healthy posture. Now, after opening the box (and you are kindly advised to put the box in a horizontal position), you are going to face the first compartment. It holds the two-part mount, some mandatory paperwork and a couple of cables. We have to note that there is no power adapter, meaning you plug the monitor directly to the wall and all of the voltage regulation is happening inside of it. Apart from the power cable, there is a DisplayPort to DisplayPort one and a USB Type-A to Type-B cable. Ensuring that your Dell monitor is setup properly - assembling the monitor stand and setting up the monitor ergonomically, connecting the cables and organizing them, will only help make the viewing experience the best it possibly can be. Where you put your monitor is almost as important as what model you buy. The monitor should be directly in front of you, at an arm’s length away (between 20-40 inches from your eyes), with the top edge of the screen at eye level when you’re sitting comfortably. You may need to adjust your chair height or the height of the monitor to achieve this. Connecting your monitor to the PC At the right-hand edge of the bottom bezel are five tiny control buttons. The rightmost and largest of the five is an on/off button, while the others help you navigate the monitor's onscreen display (OSD) menu system. The main menu lets you control functions such as brightness and contrast (using sliders controlled by arrow buttons), input source, color, and aspect ratio. Another menu lets you access preset modes, including Standard, Comfort View, Movie, Game, Warm, Cool, and Custom Color. The last allows you to set your own red, blue, and green levels with sliders.

Dim/discolored video can be caused by the video cable, so try reseating the cable and swapping with a known good part. To learn how to setup any other stand with a monitor, refer to the respective stand setup guide for setup instructions. Ergonomics Dell P2719H is equipped with a 60Hz Full HD panel. Its diagonal is 27″ (68.58 cm), and the resolution 1920 х 1080 pixels. The screen ratio is 16:9, and we are looking at a pixel density of – 82 ppi, and a pitch of 0.31 х 0.31 mm. The screen turns into Retina when viewed at distance equal to or greater than 105cm (41.3″) (from this distance one’s eye stops differentiating the separate pixels).

Change the input color format to PC RGB or YPbPr in the Color Settings On-Screen Display Menu (OSD). Some USB devices like external portable HDD require higher electric current; connect the device directly to the computer. Color accuracy out of the box is so-so, as shown on the chromaticity chart below. I tested the panel in Standard mode, and as you can see, some of my color measurements (represented by the colored dots) are well aligned with their ideal CIE coordinates (represented by the boxes), while others are a bit off. When viewing movies in Movie mode, reds and blues tended to look undersaturated. Colors in photos looked decent. So, should you need a display that offers a decent amount of image customization, can be plugged to virtually any computer released in the 21st century and has a hell of a stand – don’t miss the Dell P2719H. When you notice screen abnormalities like distortion, clarity, horizontal or vertical lines, color fade etc., it is always a good practise to isolate the monitor by running the Built-In Diagnostics.

As we mentioned the OSD menu gives you a choice from “Standard”, “Comfort View”, “Movie”, “Game”, “Warm”, “Cool” and “Custom Color”.

On the downside, we would start with the slightly outdated Full HD resolution. It is still not obsolete, but as computers are becoming more powerful, it is getting easier to run higher-resolution displays at almost every machine out there. Another thing we have to mention is the insufficient uniformity of the colors in the top right corner of the display, as well as the imperfect (although not bad) color discrepancy with the Web standards. However, the last would be more applicable for Web designers, as well as people, for which color representation in the Web is of critical importance. Change the color-setting mode in the Color Settings On-Screen Display Menu (OSD) to Graphics or Video, depending on the application.
