Description

This whisky is a London-based Sacred Spirits Distillery product, established in 2008 by Ian Hart. He has complete control over every production step of this product, and he also decided to use vacuum distillation instead of the usual pot still methods. However, the financially favorable Scotch production led many distilleries to move their businesses to Scotland. And at the early years of the 20th century, Lea Valley Distillery closed, marking the country’s century-long slumber in the whisky business.

To date only a handful of single cask whiskies have been released, which have shown plenty of promise. These include maturation in ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, plus red wine barrels from Bordeaux. The Norfolk Nog is a blend of the company’s award-winning English Single Malt and cream, resulting in a delicious and light creamy note. You can also taste the chocolate and coffee notes that build into citrusy and subtle herbal flavors after sitting the liquid in your mouth for a while. What’s An English Whisky? Hand-selected from one of the best wine regions in France, our red wine cask from Bordeaux balances delicate and rich aromas. When aged in this cask, the single malt whisky finishes with a distinctive sweet and floral complexity. Despite that, the companies must meet the definitions listed in the EU Regulation of 2008, such as having a minimum bottling alcohol content of 40% ABV. There is also a pending application for Geographical Indication to protect English whisky products from cheap imports imitating the spirit. FAQsNo, English whisky is not the same as Scotch. Both spirits followed almost the same regulations, but one major difference is that Scotch must only use oak casks during its aging process. Final Thoughts This single grain whisky is another interesting offer from The English Whisky Company. In addition to releasing single malts, the company also distilled grain liqueurs and whiskies under the “Norfolk” brand at the St. George’s Distillery. English whisky is on the march. New distilleries are cropping up the length and breadth of the country – from those with huge investments to smaller artisan producers doing things their own way – and they’re creating a buzz around the whisky drinking world. There are currently 49 English distilleries across 9 regions in England, [15] 26 independent distilleries and 23 distilleries that are members of the English Whisky Guild. [16]

The village of Hunmanby, sitting near the coastal town of Filey, is home to Yorkshire’s first-ever single malt whisky distillery. Growing out of a nearby brewery, the distillery is operated using only barley grown on the co-founders’ farm. They have filled over 2,000 casks since production began in mid-2016. And in December 2009, The English Whisky Company started releasing impressive whiskies sourcing locally grown barley and other ingredients from within England. Their Triple Distilled Whisky, bottled at 46% ABV, is a category winner at the World Whiskies Awards and even gets recognition from Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible. It is England’s first registered whisky distillery in over a century [1] . The company began distilling in 2006 at the St. George’s Distillery, located in Norfolk and founded by James Nelstrop. Our three main whisky expressions are Ex-Bourbon, Bordeaux, and Sherry. After being distilled in our Alembic copper still, our whiskies are aged in these unique casks to influence the flavour of the final spirits. The whisky has a familiar pepper spice aroma and a taste of sourdough bread, butter, and herbal notes. 8.
