About this deal

Kate Hale has worked hard to include so much rich and exciting information in this glorious book and covers such a vast array of subjects … [The] easily accessible yet informative style really will appeal to readers of any age or ability. This book is a creative FACT book, with all kinds of information about things you may not know (and some things you may know already).

Children who may not know that everything contained herein is not true, because the title says it is true. I think having categories and themes and organization works for encyclopedias because usually you want to look up a particular area of interest and learn more about it. It's sort of a coffee-table book for kids: one to just pick up and peruse a bit at a time, and see what fun things you learn. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. It covers just about everything about space, bones, dinosaurs, goats, spiders, crocodiles, sharks, robots, Romans, kings and queens, pharaohs, and much, much more! The perfect book for any fact-lover, Factopia contains 400 different facts to discover and be wowed by, covering almost anything from nature to robots to the human body to space. But there's not just one trail through these pages: sometimes your path branches and you can choose to jump to a totally different (but still connected) part of the book. About the Author: Andy Smith is an award-winning illustrator, and studied illustration at the University of Brighton and the Royal College of Art, London.

It’s all looped together in a really interesting way, going from one fact to another instead of just a boring list of facts. Not only is there loads of fun stuff to learn, but it offers a different kind of reading experience and encourages a little thinking ‘outside the box’. I hope that kids who read this book, or any nonfiction book, want to dig deeper and ask even more questions about something they found fascinating. For example, pages 6-7 show how the topics go together and move from fact to fact: start with Romans eating ice cream made from ice on snowy mountains. Following the different routes became a fun path for him, as he went back to previous paths and then followed them differently going forward, to see how they connected to the next facts.Je kunt een pad volgen van begin naar het einde maar ook af en toe een detour nemen en een ander pad volgen!

Factopia is designed as a trail of 400 facts, which weave and wind together, in a bunch of different ways. There’s a great balance of subject matter, combined with the slightly gross, creepy-crawly type information that children love so much. After writing the first book, I thought I could never beat the fact that a squid’s brain is shaped like a donut.Though I love trivia, I should just admit the fact to myself, that the people who are writing trivia books for children are filling it full of who knows what sorts of lies. This brilliant book reads like one of those classic ‘choose your own adventure’ quest books – but with facts! Ancient Rome, Samuri, the Islamic Golden Age, giant things and toilets only scratch the surface of what they’ll find inside!
