About this deal

It was the band’s last album for 4AD, and was their most commercially successful possibly due to Elizabeth Fraser’s much more intelligible lyrics. Whether you're a longtime fan or discovering Cocteau Twins, the "Heaven or Las Vegas" vinyl is a must-have for any vinyl collection. Released in 1990, Heaven or Las Vegas was the band's most commercially successful release, reaching number seven in the UK album charts.

Wolf in the Breast', again, a lovely soft melody, with a gently howling guitar, but a harmony that just keeps reminding me, somehow, of late Beach Boys. Song titles escape me, indeed why bring them down to words or titles when the music here is totally off this planet and flows like a stream of consciousness from start to finish. An album that screams a proper Abbey Road studio remastering if at all possible with digital 90s music. That unmistakable Cocteau bass and guitar, loads of reverb softening the sound to the typical sonic dreamscape.

Fraser simply captivates; her vocals are the clearest, most direct they've ever been, purring with energy and life. The addition of Raymonde in 1983 solidified their final lineup, which produced their biggest hit in the UK, "Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops", peaking at No. Iceblink luck” was featured as b-side on a 1990 Japan-only release of the single “Athol-Brose” (from the LP Blue Bell Knoll). At least there aren't many pops or distracting surface noise issues, but I'd have rather had those than have a brilliant album be reduced to a shell of what it could have been. The group earned critical praise for their ethereal, effects-laden sound and the soprano vocals of Fraser, whose lyrics often eschew any recognisable language.

The reissue only scratches the surface of the sound involved in this pressing- the reissue lacks any of the passion and depth of this lp; it just sits there where this pressing surrounds you with their sound. You’re playing somebody a new song and twenty seconds into it they start talking—about themselves, usually. Breaks my heart too - the Cocteau Twins are my favorite band, but holy s*** - the compression and brickwalling on Iceblink Luck is unforgivable, the entire LP sounds muffled compared to the digital version, and I'm convinced there are stereo balancing issues occurring with the mix in the first track, 'Cherry-coloured Funk'. The songs “Cherry-coloured funk,” “Pitch the baby,” and “Frou-frou foxes in midsummer fires,” were performed live with new arrangements by Elizabeth Fraser during her Meltdown Festival solo performances in 2012. This results in an almost infinite sonic template as she uses her wonderfully unique gossamer voice coupled with Robin Guthrie's sublime sequenced guitars and effects with the fluid bass playing of Simon Raymonde and that ever trusty Roland which almost sounds like a real drummer On Ice Blink Luck. com | 11-Nov 2022 Cocteau Twins win inaugural ‘modern Scots classic’ album award The Herald Scotland | 6-Oct 2022 Cocteau Twins featured on Spotify’s ‘Bandsplain’ podcast NEWS | 16-Sep 2021 Miley Cyrus Performs Cover of “Heaven or Las Vegas” … in Las Vegas NEWS | 06-Jul 2021 “Six Definitive Songs: The ultimate beginner’s guide to Cocteau Twins” Far Out | Jul 2021 BBC Radio 6 Inducts Heaven or Las Vegas Into Music Album Club BBC Radio 6 | 30-Jun 2021 Re-creating the Sound of Cocteau Twins: Guitars, Synth Keys, and Drum Machine Beats YouTube | 10-Apr 2021 The Genius of… ‘Heaven or Las Vegas’ by Cocteau Twins Guitar.
