About this deal

Personally, I think the sound signature of the 880s is so different from the Amirons and the 770s that I would hesitate to compare them. However, I am sure that some people would identify some traits in the sound of the 770s and 880s as being similar and that the Amirons are the more different headphone of the three, but I am describing my subjective experience here and am not trying to be objective. By any measure, the 770 Pro 80s are very comfortable, good sounding headphones that represent very decent value for money. The product is returned in original condition (with brand’s/manufacturer's box, MRP tag intact, user I've been looking for a set of studio cans for a while, and have always heard amazing things about the 770s, 880s, and 990s. Initially I was having a hard time figuring out which one of those would be best for me. I wanted a pair of headphones that I could simultaneously record with (meaning, with minimal spill), and that I could mix and master with.

SOUND: Overall very clear sound with wide stereo image. I find them especially good for rough mixes because of the wide stereo image. Bass is clear and tight, no mud and mush in the low end, which is exceptional at this price level. Mids are well defined and clear. Highs are very nice, but kind of soft, so you will want to take that into consideration while mixing. Most other headphones and monitors will sound brighter and crispier. I personally prefer the tamed highs on DT770, since they allow me to listen for longer, without as much ear fatigue. This is totally a personal preference though. Just so there is no confusion: you can hear all the highs properly (at least in my hearing range, which is up to 17.5 kHz). Thanks to the STELLAR.45 driver, The PRO X range are going to sound excellent in the Studio, plugged into an interface or amplifier – but you can also use them on the go if you plug them into a laptop or a smartphone as they are going to turn up very loud. They have a great sub bass, deep. A very nice treble extension, the bass and treble are escalated quite a bit, a lot actually. But this will not distract you from the mids.Over the course of two weeks, we practically didn't take these headphones off, running them through the Audioengine D1 DAC with music, movies, shows, and even some PC gaming and work meetings. Everything sounds amazing. The Beyerdynamic DT770 80 Ohm has been around for several decades and hence many people have many opinions about it, and here is mine. First lets talk about this headphones’ namesake, i.e. “80 Ohm”, I thought I would need an amp for driving this headphone but it runs loud and proud in my ASUS ROG GL 552 laptop and Lenovo Vibe K5 and Asus Zenfone mobiles. But you can get an amp if you like listening to music at really high volumes. I haven't tried the 250 Ohm model, I don't know but I tried it on the 80 ohm model and I realized that I don't need an amplifier. A mediocre laptop did its job well and fed my ears enough when the necessary equalizer settings were made. Low tones are really tight and clear. There is no mud, it extremely clean. Own stays in its place and does not overshadow other sounds.

For closure, I run these headphones through Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 3rd Gen audio interface and you achieve the "medium-to-high" volume at 60% of the knob-turn. At 100%, you can listen to it, but that's just blazing and a bit too loud. In general, our DT 770 PRO, DT 700 PRO X and DT 990 PRO, DT 900 PRO X studio headphones are suitable for streamers and can be used for gaming accordingly. To find the perfect headset for your own use, we recommend our online gaming guide. +What is the difference between PRO and PRO X? First things first, this is not a set of “muddy” headphones, or whatever words people like to use, but you need to know that they have a very strong emphasis in the highest frequencies which can get a little grating after a while. This simply means that the emphasis in anything that goes through them tends to favor the highest notes over all else. You also need to power them correctly. If you know that your computer or phone can drive them, the DT 770 PRO can handle pretty much anything you throw at them. Lows, mids, and highs

A studio legend that remains a sound choice for most pro audio tasks

The corresponding models of both product families PRO and Edition are hardly distinguishable in terms of sound, as long as they have the same impedance (e.g. DT 880 Edition / 250 Ohm and DT 880 PRO / 250 Ohm sound the same). After a bit of EQ I got them to sound more natural and a bit more neutral. The 770s have a bit of a fame for strident highs. While I don't exactly agree that it is overbearing, the higher frequencies did indeed carry an extra power, which is something I don't have a particular taste for. After running some tests, I EQed them to taste by raising the lower frequencies by just a bit, as well as lowering the higher frequencies. Just a touch of gain adding and reduction here and there, and after that, they were good to go for me. There's soft leather padding along the top of the headphones, too, which is also among the best we've experienced. The best part? All of this padding is removable and replaceable, which means you won't have to buy a new pair of headphones once the DT 770 Studios get a little torn up or dirty. In conclusion, I love this headphone for everything. Mixing/mastering [closed design isolates well, won't hear street noises & children playing, I can always focus on my mix/master]; monitoring instruments, sound design, critical listening, watching movies, and playing games. Also great for enjoying ASMR, or voice/video-calls, just make sure you have an good headphone preamp to drive the 250ohm to get enough gain/volume. Although it is a V-shape sounding headphone, it is quite aggressive in presenting the details. Everything sounded quite the way it should, not neutral, but still very good.
