Description

Setting aside the fact that pandas are solitary animals and that the creatures Marmalade meets would not be found anywhere near his natural home, this is a story about family love, being yourself and finding your place in the world – a message our youngest readers need to hear often as they begin to develop their own identity and be comfortable with it. And while they would have or will hear the theme in many stories, it is the ending that makes this one different. For it doesn’t come to a cosy conclusion with Marmalade snuggling in close to his Mama again – they get up to some hilarious mischief that lightens the message and leaves the reader with a smile. Marmalade: The Orange Panda is the heartwarming new picture book from David Walliams. It’s a delightful story about a panda bear who is different but eventually learns to embrace his uniqueness.

Cuddle up and laugh with this heart-warming and hilarious picture book from number-one bestselling author David Walliams, gloriously illustrated by the awesome Adam Stower! It's a lovely message for children and the pictures are wonderful. The design of the book is as you would expect beautiful. Create a story map that shows the different places that Marmalade visits during the story (and what happens in each place). I have another 2yr and a bit grandson and he loved it and now the slightly younger one loves it too. They ask for Marmalade and they sit and listen as I read. Retell the story (or a part of it) from Marmalade’s point of view. Can you add how he is feeling at different parts?

Author/Illustrator

This book is like an early spring, colourful, light and joyous. Adam Stower has done a marvellous job on the illustrations which bring my story to life. It tells the tale of a baby panda named Marmalade who thinks like he doesn’t fit because his fur is orange. Marmalade goes on an epic journey through the forest meeting all the weird and wonderful creatures along the way to find out where he belongs.” This gorgeous and endearing story is a celebration of family love, being yourself and finding your place in the world. It is the perfect story to share with your special someone – big or little. There are lots of examples of onomatopoeia in the story (e.g. doink, splash, bump). Can you find / think of any more? There is a new panda born but, even though his mom thinks he’s perfect, he soon runs away after he is shunned by the other panda bears because he doesn’t look like them. His adventure sees him meeting some interesting animals in the forest, each a little confused as to why this panda is orange.

I stand by my previous note about the language for a younger child but don't let that put you off. Children need to learn all levels of language and they may not understand now but just hearing the words and seeing the pictures is enough for this very young age. Can you find all of the adjectives in the book. What do they describe? Can you think of synonyms for some of them? Cuddle up and laugh with this heart-warming and hilarious picture book with your special someones, big and little, from master storyteller David Walliams. The charming story of a courageous little panda on a very big adventure. One morning, deep in the forest, a beautiful baby panda was born, different to all the other pandas he had dazzling orange fur."I will call you Marmalade!" His mummy whispered, she couldn't be more in love. Retell part of the story from the point of view of Marmalade’s mother (or the Elder Panda). Can you explain how they feel about the arrival of the little panda? David Walliams has revolutionised reading for children and become one of the most influential children's writers today. It is the perfect story to share with your special someone - big or little. About the Author The collective noun for a group of pandas is an ‘embarrassment’. Can you find out the collective nouns for other animals? Make a poster to show some of these. Watch this trailer for the book. Could you use presentation or animation software to make a book trailer? The book contains marvelous onomatopoeic words, which are not only fun to read out loud to your little ones but also make great practice for early readers to practice their own reading by sounding the words out. Marmalade is the ninth picture book by David Walliams and the second collaboration with Adam Stower.

One morning, deep in the forest, a beautiful baby panda was born. The panda was different to all the others, as he had dazzling orange fur. I have updated my review to a 5 star. The last review I gave was the day it arrived and it did not grab the attention of my 2yr old grandson, perhaps he was just distracted. The story about finding your place in the world is brought to life through wonderfully bright and colorful illustrations by Adam Stower. I always enjoy picture books with messages and this one of being yourself and celebrating family love is an important one to share with our children. But when the other pandas see him they are not impressed – rather this embarrassment of pandas is embarrassed. And so, Marmalade sets out on a perilous adventure through the jungle to find out just where he belongs…. Research some information about pandas and write a report about them. Can you present this as a leaflet, a written report or an audio / visual / multimedia report? Find out about camouflage? Why do animals have fur / skin with different colours and patterns? Why can some animals change their own colour? Cuddle up and laugh with this heart-warming and funny new children’s picture book from number-one bestselling author David Walliams, gloriously illustrated by the awesome Adam Stower!
