The structure uses a multi-thread that gives grip but still lets you rip. The treads don’t have aggressive lugs that get in the way of the road.

Version 23 was one of the biggest updates in the history of Nike so it makes sense that version 24 is one of the smallest updates. It maintains the same midsole and outsole as last year’s version but it gets a new upper.

Upon opening the box, I was extremely impressed with the colorway and design of the shoe. The navy blue mixes well with the orange-peel swoosh and the crimson flash heel.

It has only been launched in a very small number of markets in Asia and Nike has chosen to not name the foam that its midsole is made of or give its standard size weight. If you loved the Lunarglide series, the Structure 23 also has shades of the Lunarglide (8 & 9) although the Structure 23 is much more cushioned and has a lot more outsole rubber. Allow me to counter-balance the previous opinions on these. Well, everybody’s foot is different obviously but the 22’s work just fine for me. Another change they made to the upper the location of the laces. They moved them up farther up the shoe. The was done in hopes to allow the forefoot to spread out in a natural way while you run.

The next three versions toned down the medial post, making them more comfortable and this broadened the target market. The firm ride still remained. During gait analysis you will be asked to walk and run on our in-store treadmill whilst your movements are recorded using the latest Daftfish software. A slow-motion, detailed analysis will show and explain your biomechanics, specifically looking at pronation, the inward-turning movement that occurs when your foot touches the ground. During walking and running this acts as cushioning for the body. I remember watching a Galen Rupp interview years ago in which he said that he has always been a “Structure guy” and does all his training in the Structure. After my first run in the Structure 23, I understood why Nike refrained from categorising the shoe as a stability shoe. The Structure 23 is the Structure series reimagined and I really like the direction that Nike has gone with it.

On the other side, the outsole provided a highlight for the sole unit. The traction provided by the outsole handled every surface I on which I tested it. The Structure 19 and the Structures before the 19 had prominent medial posts and a “poking in the arch” sensation which made it unbearable for many neutral runners and even some overpronators to wear. This was an effective change as I noticed how my feet were landing on my stride. The wider than average toebox gives you ample room to spread out.

Please note that the onus is on the customer to choose the correct size and that all size charts are a suggested guide to measurements based on information supplied from the manufacturer. You get thin reflective strips on both sides of the heel and a single strip on the medial side of the toe box for night-time visibility. The Structure 23 is no longer a traditional stability shoe with a firm ride and a harder medial post. I stopped and retie my shoes thinking it was the laces being loose. I took off again but the heel was still loose and my midfoot hurt because the shoes were tied too tight.

The Zoom Structures absorbed the impact of my feet hitting the ground nicely but failed to return any bounce. After a while, I felt my legs and feet tire because I was fighting the shoe. While putting them on and walking around in them, my feet sank down into the soft foam and I immediately knew that this was a completely different beast from previous versions. It does however shine on recovery or long runs at relaxed speeds. Slow runs from 15km up to marathon distances are in its wheelhouse. Remember when Nike led us to believe that the Structure was being discontinued because they compared the React Infinity Run to it and said that the React Infinity Run caused runners fewer injuries than the Structure 22? Is your closet getting a little crowded with all those specialty shoes you’ve been collecting? It’s true, right?

It’s one of the only Nike trainers to use CMP 010 foam in its midsole which I prefer to the more popular React foam. It’s an EVA foam which feels softer and more spongy than dense, rubbery React foam.
