We loved this cooler for car camping, hanging out at a park or the beach, or anything around the water. The waterproof zipper is truly leakproof, plus the whole thing floats! Even after opening this cooler frequently, our food stayed cool all weekend long. However, in direct sunlight, the cooler gets hot to the touch. Specifically, Arctic Zone states that you should see anywhere from 2 to 4 days of ice life on their 20 Quart model and anywhere from 4 to 8 days on their 55-quart model. You still may find a few coolers of these sizes that offer comparable ice life for a bit cheaper, but the differences are negligible. With so many different cooler options available these days, it is easy for a brand to get lost in the masses. While having your cooler “stand out” at the lake or next BBQ may not be a priority to some, for others it is a consideration. Compared to other similarly sized coolers on the market, these ice numbers are quite good. They will compete with most of the other premium brands such as RTIC, Yeti, Engel, etc. While we have come across a small number of coolers that have slightly longer ice life, the differences may be negligible to many people. When discussing premium coolers, price is always the main talking point. And even as the selection of high-end coolers continues to expand, there is an established range of price points even within that category. For instance, the most expensive of the “premium” coolers can cost quite a bit more than a premium cooler on the lower end.
The strong exterior is waterproof 1,000-denier tarpaulin, a tenacious material used for crash pads. Other coolers we’ve tested have been made with layers of high-density superfoam plus a lightweight heat-reflective material around the exterior. But that material isn’t as strong. This type of scenario is more aligned with our real-life testing. We will fill the ice chest approximately halfway up with ice, leave it in a semi-warm environment, and occasionally open the lid. This better emulates real-life use. For helping to seal the cooler lid, you will find a strong rubber T-latch similar to what you see in other cooler brands. This, in conjunction with the oversized rubber gasket, results in a strong seal that helps to retain cold air inside. This is especially important for those who live in the South and experience 90+ degree temperatures in the summer. Claims on how long they keep your food cool for vary from product to product, from a few hours to several days. With a sturdy base and durable all-around construction, this cooler is easy to drag in and out of the car and through the dirt and sand, and it’s easy to clean. We also loved the bright orange interior which made it easy to see what’s hidden at the bottom. The best cool bags are leakproof and easy to clean. The worst leak. Some have water dripping out in a matter of seconds and are impossible to clean, as spills soak into the bag.
