As we said in the pricing part of the review, brand is a really important consideration, but especially so when looking to buy Tyres. But as you’re probably already aware, you’re on to a great choice if you do go with Schwalbe, as they’re a fantastic brand, making amazing products. These Schwalbe Tyres are for every-day use, with densely woven 50 EPI’s for extreme puncture resistance and longevity. I've had 3 versions of the Original over the years, the middle one was best, with Kevlar and a good compromise between weight, rolling, ruggedness and puncture proof. I think it was the HS308 or something like that. It is still available, but all must be pretty old by now as they havn't been made for a few years. With a centre tread, this Schwalbe Tyre provides low rolling resistance and virtually noiseless running, so you can enjoy the sounds of the great outdoors in pure serenity. Recycling - Also in the SmartGuard, Schwable use a proportion of recycled rubber from old latex products.

Also, I strongly disagree with the claim that they're easy to mount. A brand new Marathon Plus is almost impossible to mount from cold. Tyre leavers will snap. Curse words will be uttered. Your rims will get scratched. I'm not ashamed to say I've given up and I get the bike shop to fit new ones for me - and even then it takes two strapping young lads at the shop to get the job done. I rode a set of 26” Marathon Originals across Missouri’s Katy Trail, a rail-to-trail project that spans more than 220 miles across the state, roughly from Kansas City to St. Louis. IIRC the current marathon is slightly lighter, slightly faster, slightly less puncture resistant vs the 'Plus'.
