The Cosmic Sounds of Interstellar (13:40) - Hans Zimmer discusses how he wrote and recorded the score for the film. Shooting in Iceland: Miller's Planet/Mann's Planet—Travel with the cast and crew to Iceland and see the challenges they faced in creating two vastly different worlds in one country. The Endurance– A look at the spaceship in the film, its resemblance to the International Space Station and a tour of the inside (which looks conspicuously like another we’ve seen before…)The not-so-distant future is dire. Our planet is dying. America is trapped in an increasingly dangerous futuristic Dust Bowl. A blight has taken our crops. One by one the world's major crop species are dying, leaving us hungry and relying on the last sustainable crop, corn. Though, it's just a matter of time before the world is out of food (though, curiously barley-based alcohol seems rather plentiful). What will we do then? As with past filmed-on-IMAX Nolan pictures, 'Interstellar' features alternating aspect ratios. The standard 2.39:1 is employed for dialogue-centric scenes, whereas the 1.78:1 ratio is doled out for all the exciting visual stuff. Aspect ratio changes can be jarring, but they aren't here. They flow quite well with the overall pacing of the story, so they're not overtly distracting.

Across All Dimensions and Time—A look at the concept and design of the Tesseract, which incorporated a practical set rather than a green screen. Plotting an Interstellar Journey– The filmmakers and some members of the cast look at the project ahead of them. How it will be filmed, some of the IMAX footage within as well as some of the logistics of the project as a whole.Shooting in Iceland: Miller's Planet/Mann's Planet (12:42) - Director Christopher Nolan likes to shoot as much for real as possible and Iceland conveniently provided the ideal locations for two of the main planets in the film. The Space Suits—A look at the design and build of the suits and helmets, and what it was like to wear them. In the near future the Earth is suffering from a drought. The “Dust Bowl” that happened in the mid west in the 1930’s has become a worldwide problem. Crops are drying up and huge dust storms are commonplace. Farmer/Engineer Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and his family aren’t immune to the climate changes, either. However, it so happens that they discover some sort of code that leads Cooper to the headquarters of NASA. He’s informed that they’re sending a shuttle into space to try and solve the drought on Earth. Cooper, along with a skeleton crew, head off into the bowels of space and head for a wormhole that will allow them to travel beyond our solar system. The odds of survival are slim. Will Cooper and his crew be able to navigate the dangers of space and save the Earth or are they doomed? The included extras are all presented in high definition and provide an in-depth look at the making of the film and are generally excellent, in fact our only real complaint would be that there's no 'play all' feature for the various sections which means you have to select each one individually. Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar would be impressive in the ranks of contemporary hard science fiction films, even if for no other reasons than that there are so few of them these days and that its ambition is nearly unsurpassed.

While I personally found the sheer loudness of Zimmer's score to be irritating in the theater, I found that my home viewing experience was much better. The scenes in question – like when the team ventures through the worm hole – are still really loud, but the dialogue is still intelligible. I actually quite liked the engulfing, entrancing quality of Zimmer's score this time around. I also immensely enjoyed the heaps of bass thundering forth from my sub. If you're a fan of low-end sonics, then this is surely the sound mix for you.

The Dust– The dust, which played a big part in the Earth sequences, was done on film as opposed to during post-production, for a more realistic effect.

The Science of 'Interstellar' (HD 50 min.) – McConaughey provides the narration as the film's more scientific elements are explained and dissected by scientist Kip Thorne. Across All Dimensions and Time– A pretty comprehensive look at the design and thought that went into the Tesseract that played a major part in the third act of the film.
