Roman says his new book reveals the things that weren't captured on camera, and how his time in the jungle changed his whole outlook on life. If you feel someone might be in immediate danger, call 999, advises Laura Peters, head of advice and information at Rethink Mental Illness. “Samaritans are also available 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 116 123. I also particularly liked the end “Stuff that’s Good to Know” and will be taking ideas such as “The Wellness Menu” and “The Safety Plan” on board. Adejobi, Alicia (21 October 2019). Roman Kemp Corporate Work

Capital DJ Roman Kemp has achieved much success but he hasn?t had an easy ride. He?s battled depression since the age of 15, once contemplated suicide, and has bravely fought to smash the stigma still surrounding medication and mental health. In 2019, Roman won over yet more fans coming third in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, with his uncanny impressions of everyone from Ant and Dec to his mate Harry Styles.

It had e substance than I was expecting. I thought it was “just” going to be a book about mental health with anecdotes and helpful advice. And that would have been perfectly fine. But it’s so much more. He’s taken us through his life, his childhood, adolescence and adulthood, his family life, his career, his ups and downs, and the things that have built up to crate this picture of mental health. It’s not a self-help book as such. He doesn’t pretend he’s a know-it-all expert or guru, he’s just telling us his experience. Besides, they all get on too well. On Gogglebox, “you see me and Roman absolutely how we have been since he was a kid”, Kemp says. Years ago, he and Shirlie discussed their parenting philosophy and agreed “to bring Harley and Roman up as if they were mates”.If you’re feeling suicidal, and you don’t feel you can keep yourself safe right now, seek immediate help. Go to any hospital A&E department, or call 999 and ask for an ambulance if you can’t get there yourself. Keep yourself safe by removing any means of taking your own life while you learn how to cope with suicidal feelings. The domestic-themed stories make me wonder if the Kemps aspire to a Kardashian-style fame, a Keeping Up With the Kemps. “People have spoken about it several times over the years,” he says. “But I can imagine Roman not wanting to do that.” If you, or someone you love, is experiencing suicidal thoughts, it’s important to seek help and remember that with the right treatment and support, the majority of people who have felt suicidal will go on to live fulfilling lives.” Roman - thank you for a book that covers mental health without being statistical and/ or regimented, but being real and honest. Harp, Justin (11 November 2019). "I'm a Celebrity cast confirmed as Caitlyn Jenner, Ian Wright and more join". Digital Spy . Retrieved 11 November 2019.

If a doctor came in now and told me 'Roman, you've been taking a placebo for 15 years'... great. I'll carry on." The worst sections of the book could be considered insulting to those of us who've suffered with mental ill health. In the section on money, Roman readily admits he could come across as a "privileged arsehole". He then goes on to prove himself right by stating in the section on the royal family "the Royals endure all of the same human hardships the rest of us do". I've never met a Royal (Rowan has) and I don't have any reason to doubt that it is his honest opinion that they're good people, but to make the aforementioned statement, it's just objectively not true. This is the point at which I gave up on the book because he is clearly not thinking in much depth about how this might land with ordinary folk. Even in the case of loss which Roman discusses in this section it does not have as great an impact on those in positions of wealth and power such as the royals for the simple reason of them having functionally unlimited funds with which to procure themselves the best psychological support there is. [23] Mind’s Get It Off Your Chest report, commissioned in partnership with the English Football League, showed men’s help-seeking behaviour and their ability to speak openly about their mental health has improved to a degree over the last decade. However, the report also revealed that 45 per cent of men say they feel worried or low more regularly than ten years ago, and are consequently twice as likely to feel suicidal.SHMR LIMITED people - Find and update company information - GOV.UK". find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk . Retrieved 22 January 2023. Okay, I know this is going to seem rather churlish, but this book is just terrible. It is a very important subject, but the majority of it it just lists of things the author likes with the flimsy justification that everything in life can affect your mental health, so these are the things that shaped the author as a person. Thanks to this prominent position, Roman has teamed up with a number of companies and educational establishments to promote the awareness of male suicide and mental health. Roman teamed up with Legal and General Group Protection’s ‘Be Well, Get Better, Be Supported’ campaign in 2021 as their mental health ambassador. Between them, they made a series of films about Roman’s own personal experience of mental health and wellbeing. The turning point came when he and Gary were cast as Reggie and Ronnie in the 1990 film The Krays. Maybe it was the fact they played twins; maybe it was the way Anna Scher, who had taught them drama as children, got them crawling around the floor in a refresher session, pretending to be preschoolers, but something about the experience “equalised” them.
